Here is a Shot of Hoya praetorii that You Will Seldom See!

Most photos of  Hoya praetorii blooms are taken from the side, because that is what looks so beautiful.  I guess that would be the flower’s “good side.”  For examples, see Hoya praetorii under my Best Photos Section.  Here is what it looks like from underneath.  Still nice, but a little scary looking!

Another imperialis Photo

Here is another H. imperialis photo; it is not that great, but in my defense, it is such a glossy flower that it is difficult to get a really nice result.  I will however keep trying to improve.  A few words about Hoyas as cut flowers.  Hoya imperialis and Hoya macgillivrayi last nicely for about a week.  Hoya megalaster is gone after a few hours.  Something to keep in mind for any of you planning on using them in a corsage.

Spent the Day Giving All of the Big Plants a Shower

I’m pretty tired right now as I just finished up giving all of the big plants a shower.  In the next week or so, I will be uploading a video on how I move these large plants to wash off the accumulated dust.  Here is a photo of H. cumingiana all washed off and free of dirt and grime!

My First How To Video Is Now Posted On You Tube

My first in what I hope will be a number of “How To Videos” has now been Uploaded to You Tube.  All of these videos will be housed under the top heading, or section titled: Learning How Productions.  My first attempt is 22 minutes long; it is a bit clumsy, but I think that there may be a few pointers that can be picked up.  The title is called How to Grow Hoyas the Semi-Hydro Way.  Hopefully it will be instructive.  Without Further ado:

Hoya imperialis Corona

Here is a photo of a Hoya imperialis corona.  It was taken almost at a 1:1 ratio, but not quite.  I also discovered something new last night – Hoya imperialis blooms do indeed have a scent.  I had put the bloom that I had cut off into a vase in our small bathroom to see how long it would last as a cut flower.  When I went into the bathroom later, I could smell a lightly spicy scent with just a hint of mint, and sure enough it was coming from the flower.  Although my imperialis has bloomed many times before, I had never smelled any fragrance.  I’m wondering if the conditions were not humid enough for it to produce a scent.  Anyhow I now know that it has a very unusual fragrance that is quite lovely.

New Hoya kenejiana Photos Added

Here are a couple of new pictures of Hoya kenejiana.  Also be sure to check out the photos of the blooms on this plant in the Best Photos section of this website.  I really like how they came out.
