Hoya cinnamomifolia (Hoya macrophylla)

Hoya cinnamomifolia is a difficult to grow (at least for me) Hoya from Java with large 20cm long leaves.  I have struggled with it and restarted it a number of times.  I finally coaxed a few blooms out of it.  It you are looking for a challenge that can have spectacular blooms give this one a try.  I think my biggest problem with this one is that it is very sensitive to overwatering, and I am a chronic overwaterer.  I have not kept this Hoya now in sometime, but to my recollection there was no scent from the flowers on this plant.

Update 08/01/2025: Hoya cinnamomifolia has now become Hoya macrophylla based on a paper published by plant scientist Michele Rodda in 2025. Here is an abstract from that paper:

“ABSTRACT. Accurate botanical illustrations play a crucial role in plant identification. Hoya
macrophylla Blume, one of the earliest described species of Hoya R.Br. from Southeast Asia,
and among the earliest to be illustrated, presents significant identification challenges. This
paper elucidates how its first illustration incorporates features characteristic of both Hoya
macrophylla and H. latifolia G.Don, and this is the reason behind the difficult application of
the name. Furthermore, the type specimen of Hoya macrophylla is indistinguishable from H.
cinnamomifolia Hook., a taxon published later and consistently correctly applied. This study
underscores the need for careful re-evaluation of historical illustrations in the context of modern
taxonomic standards. A lectotype and an epitype are designated for Hoya macrophylla and H.
latifolia respectively and their synonyms are clarified and where necessary typified.”
