I took a glance at my Dischidia nummularia this week and was very surprised to see that it was completely covered in seedpods. There are at least 20 in various stages of development. They are very difficult to photograph; here are my best two:

My Favorite Dischidia nummularia variegata Flower Close-UP
Here is my favorite photograph that I took of the flower of Dischidia nummularia variegata. It is magnified at 2.5 times the size of the camera’s sensor size. It took close to 3 hours to achieve this result. That is why you won’t see too many of these on my site. I simply don’t have the time.

I Don’t Take These Extreme Close-Ups Every Day
Taking these photos with my extreme close-up lens is a lot of work. The lens is extremely difficult to use, and frankly not much fun. Just finding the image in the lens can take 10 minutes or more. Just setting up the equipment takes 15 minutes, so you are looking at a around 30 minutes before you get your first shot.

Dischidia nummularia variegata – Reborn
Around two years ago I was able to obtain this plant again from a Hoya friend in Florida – Thanks MJ! This time around I am only watering when this thing is bone dry, and keeping it at high humidity. The flowers are extremely tiny and I have always wanted to take some good photos of them. Here is the best that can be achieved with my point and shoot. Tomorrow I will begin a series of photos taken with my MP-E 65mm f2.8 Manual Focus lens.
