Hoya hellwigiana is a PNG native and great plant; I say that even though I have killed it a couple of times. When it is in active growth, the leaves are shiny with lots of red, and it is an extremely attractive plant. It flowers early and often. I find that it is not a plant for general household conditions; it really prefers lots of humidity and warmth. Let this one dry out between waterings or you will quickly need to take cuttings to start it over. Here is a video tour of the plant from 2012:
** Update December 2022 ** Hoya hellwigiana is now considered a synonym of Hoya nicholsoniae and has been moved there along with Hoya samoensis by Michele Rodda.
