Hoya parasitica Is an Unresolved Name

Apparently Hoya parasitica is part of the H. acuta complex, and the name is unresolved.  I received the plant around seven years ago as a free cutting in an order from Thailand.  It has been with me ever since and has now flowered on two peduncles just sitting on a south windowsill with no artificial aids. Clearly the flowering response was triggered by increasing day length on this one.

Hoya parasitica Flowers in the Office

The scent on this one is completely overwhelming.  Coworkers were asking what is that weird smell from 40 or 50 feet away from the flowering plant. The scent is very hard to describe, being both pleasant and slightly unpleasant at the same time, but one thing is for sure; the smell is powerful!

Seedpods By the Bunch

Another photo showing some of the dozens of seedpods I have on Hoya papaschonii.  As a side note, I have these seeds listed for sale on eBay very inexpensively.

Final Day with Hoya paulshirleyi

While I have not been growing Hoya paulshirleyi for very long, I think it is a worthwhile Hoya to add to the collection.  The flowers don’t last very long, but it is a quick bloomer and a handsome specimen when well grown.  Notice the pubescent corolla of these flowers!
